Zirconium micro powder (Zr) is a highly reactive, grayish-metallic powder used primarily in nuclear reactors, aerospace alloys, and pyrotechnics due to its exceptional corrosion resistance and high melting point of 1,852°C. It is frequently stored underwater or in vacuum-sealed packaging because it is highly flammable and can spontaneously ignite or explode when exposed to air or moisture in specific concentrations.

- Nuclear Energy: Over 90% of zirconium is used to clad nuclear fuel rods because it has an extremely low neutron-absorption cross-section and resists corrosion in high-pressure water.
- Metallurgy & Alloys: It serves as an additive to improve the strength and corrosion resistance of steel, magnesium, and titanium alloys used in jet engines and spacecraft.
- Pyrotechnics & Explosives: Used in high-energy igniters, automotive airbag inflators, and photographic flashbulbs because it burns with a brilliant white flame.
- Medical Devices: Its biocompatibility makes it suitable for dental implants, prosthetics, and artificial joints.
- Electronics: Utilized as a "getter" material in vacuum tubes to remove trace gases and in the manufacturing of high-performance capacitors.
