Vanadium carbide (VC) is an extremely hard, refractory ceramic powder used primarily as a grain refiner in cemented carbides and as a high-performance coating material. With a Mohs hardness of 9–9.5, it is considered one of the hardest known metal carbides and is valued for its exceptional wear resistance and high melting point of approximately 2,810°C.
