  • Additional information

PVA fiber (polyvinyl alcohol fiber) is a high-performance synthetic fiber used primarily as a reinforcement material in concrete and mortar to prevent cracking and increase toughness. Unlike many other synthetic fibers, it forms a unique molecular bond with the cement matrix, which significantly improves the durability and ductility of the finished structure.

Key Properties

PVA fibers are valued in industrial applications for their high strength and chemical resilience.

  • Bonding Strength: According to Pioneer Fibre, PVA fibers create an exceptional bond with cement hydrates through a process of fibrillation under stress. This bond can be 300% greater than other fiber types.
  • Tensile & Modulus: High-tenacity variants typically exhibit a tensile strength of ~1,600 MPa and an elastic modulus of ~30–40 GPa.
  • Chemical Resistance: They are highly resistant to alkali (essential for concrete), UV light, and various chemicals.
  • Stealth Nature: Due to their monofilament structure and fine diameter, they disperse uniformly and are often nearly invisible in finished concrete surfaces.
  • Solubility: While most structural PVA fibers are water-resistant, specific grades are engineered to be water-soluble for temporary supports or laundry detergent packaging.

Concrete & Construction Applications

In construction, PVA fibers serve as an "environmentally friendly" alternative to asbestos and a secondary reinforcement to steel.

  • Ultra-High Performance Concrete (UHPC): Used to improve ductility and post-crack performance in bridges and high-rise structures.
  • Crack Control: Effectively inhibits micro-cracks caused by plastic shrinkage and thermal expansion.
  • Thin Sections & Repair: Ideal for thin-section overlays, repair mortars, and architectural precast panels where standard rebar is impractical.
  • Countertops & Decorative Concrete: Popular for artisan concrete projects because they reinforce the matrix without protruding from the surface.

Other Industrial Uses

  • Textiles: Used as a finishing agent to enhance fabric durability, or as water-soluble base fabrics for intricate embroidery work.
  • 3D Printing: Employed as a water-soluble support material (filament) for complex geometries that need to be washed away after printing.
  • Rubber Reinforcement: Used in the manufacturing of automotive brake hoses, tires, and conveyor belts.
  • Paper & Filters: Acts as a binder to improve the toughness and strength of specialty papers and battery separators.

Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, cibo mundi ea duo, vim exerci phaedrum. There are many variations of passages of Lorem Ipsum available, but the majority have alteration in some injected or words which don't look even slightly believable. If you are going to use a passage of Lorem Ipsum, you need to be sure there isn't anything embarrang hidden in the middle of text.

It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting unchanged. It was popularised in the sheets containing lorem ipsum is simply free text.
