                              Reducing Graphene Oxide (GO) involves removing oxygen-containing functional groups from graphene oxide sheets to restore electrical conductivity and the hybridized structure of graphene. Key methods include chemical reduction (using reagents like hydrazine or ascorbic acid), thermal reduction (high heat), and electrochemical reduction. The resulting reduced graphene oxide (rGO) is a black powder. 

 

Key Methods for Reducing Graphene Oxide:

  • Electrochemical Reduction  : A technique for creating high-quality, defect-minimized rGO, often used in sensor fabrication.

  • Photo-reduction                     : Uses lasers (e.g., femtosecond lasers) or ultraviolet light to create localized, patterned reduction. 

  • Chemical Reduction              : Uses agents like hydrazine hydrate, sodium borohydride or green reductants like L-ascorbic acid to                                                            remove oxygen groups.

  • Thermal Reduction                :Involves rapid heating (often 200–1000°C) to cause exfoliation and reduction, or using microwave                                                               irradiation  for faster processing.
